ummm ok if you run an indestructible chainguide i will laught when you smash it off a rock and break your ISCG tabs right off the holes also alow mud, dirt, and grease to be let out easier causing it to perform better

no because you stated that your friend broke an unlightened guide and he is drilling his out to save weight and you are telling him that its going to break when it would anyway. i have had experience drilling parts out to make them lighter the size holes that he made are quite small and barely reduce the strength. chainguides are made to break on a hard enough impact. why? you may ask, so it wont bent or break off the ISCG tabs on your frame which are a hell of alot harder to replece than the roller cage.
